FIRST INSURANCE COMPANY OF HAWAII NAMES JEFF SHONKA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 

HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

The Board of Water Supply (BWS) advises Oahu motorists that the two center lanes of Farrington Highway in the Haleakala Avenue intersection in Nanakuli will be closed from Monday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 9. 

In addition, there will be roving lane closures from Haleakala Avenue to Black Rock on Thursday, May 10, Friday, May 11, and on Monday, May 14.  The lane closures are scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. 

Contractors will be working to backfill, repave, and restripe the intersection of Farrington Highway and Haleakala Avenue.  Crews will also be removing a fire hydrant and valve covers from the old waterline. 

There will also be ongoing road rehabilitation work from Black Rock to Waimanalo Gulch weeknights from 7:00 p.m.

HONOLULU – The Board of Water Supply (BWS) will be closing the two center lanes of Farrington Highway in the Haleakala Avenue intersection in Nanakuli from Tuesday, May 1 to Friday, May 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.  A contractor will be making final service connections to the new 24-inch transmission water main along Farrington Highway.

Driver identified in fatal H-1 freeway crash

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office has identified the driver who was killed in a crash on the H-1 freeway.

She was 21-year-old Lisa Ledward of Waipahu. Waianae resident John Herzog, 27, was also killed in the crash.

A 15-year-old boy was also injured in the crash.

According to police, Ledward lost control in the Waianae-bound lanes near the Kualakai Parkway off ramp in Kapolei last weekend, causing her truck to go up the right shoulder lane and overturn.
