It’s getting close for another Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic, our 37th annual. This year we will run 14 events over five days of surfing, starting with the Presidents’ Day Weekend, Feb.16, 17 and 18 and, with surf permitting, ending up Feb. 23 and 24th. Our award ceremony will close out  the Classic during the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 24.

The first-of-its-kind sports complex will provide access to sports training and competition opportunities for local athletes with intellectual disabilities

HONOLULU – The Matson Foundation is helping Special Olympics Hawai‘i build upon its dreams to establish the state’s first sports and wellness center for local athletes with intellectual disabilities. The foundation recently announced a lead $25,000 donation to help fund the creation of the Special Olympics Hawai‘i Sports and Wellness Center  in Kapolei -- a world-class center which is being designed specifically to unite athletes of all ability levels and serve thousands of athletes and their families across the state.

HGEA announces its first-ever Kendall Fishing Tournament

The Hawaii Government Employees Association is excited to announce its first-ever Kendall Fishing Tournament to benefit the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund, which provides educational benefits to HGEA members and their immediate families. Cash prizes, including a $3,000 grand prize for the largest fish caught, will be given away.

Boats will launch from Waianae Boat Harbor on Saturday, May 5, 2012, with fishing to start at 6:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying fish include ahi, marlin, mahi mahi and ono.

Entry fee is $375 per boat and covers up to five team members; each additional member is $50. The tournament is open to the public.

City golf courses expected to open tomorrow

City golf courses expected to open tomorrow

The following information is provided by the City & County of Honolulu:

City golf courses at Ala Wai, Ewa Villages and West Loch remained closed today, but are expected to reopen tomorrow if conditions permit. 

For the past few days, City crews with the Department of Facility Maintenance Road Division have been removing debris from roads, storm drains and ditches all over the island including Diamond Head, Punaluu, Kaneohe, Hawaii Kai, and Waianae.
