“Share the Love” Event Raises $30,000 for Five Local Non-Profits

 

KAHULUI, HAWAII (January 24, 2013) – Subaru Hawaii announced that its “Share the Love” sales event raised $8,000 forHawaii Wildlife Fund and $3,000 for the SPCA Maui. A check presentation was held today at Island Subaru in Kahului.

WHAT:            Kona Subaru invites the public to attend “Share the Love” day on December 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The dealership will host an engaging event on behalf of Hawaii Island Humane Society.

Hawaiian Humane Society’s “Feline Fix” offers $10 cat sterilizations to West Oahu community

Thousands of cats arrive at Hawaiian Humane Society every month. In an effort to get as many neighborhood cats fixed as possible, the Humane Society is embarking on an aggressive sterilization effort targeted to the West Oahu community. The Humane Society will offer $10 “Feline Fix” spay/neuter surgeries for 100 feral cats in ONE DAY on Sunday, May 6, at Nanakuli High School.

Donations will be accepted along with Humane Society “wish list” items, which include: canned kitten food, cat toys and Kong dog toys, dog/cat nail clippers, kitty litter, shoe boxes and towels (full wish list can be found at www.hawaiianhumane.org).

The Humane Society’s Feline Fix is made possible through a $25,000 grant from ABC Stores and Humane Society donors. Appointments are being accepted now for the May 6 surgery at 356-2215 and jdunn@hawaiianhumane.org.

Oahu SPCA Named Finalist in Toyota 100 Cars for Good Contest

Leeward-based Oahu for the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA)  is one of 500 finalists in Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public beginning May 9, 2011.

Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program will showcase five non-profit organizations each day for 100 days on Toyota's Facebook page, facebook.com/toyota. Visitors can vote once a day for the organization that they feel is most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle. The OSPCA  will be one of the five organizations highlighted for voting on Friday, May 27.  Fans can vote by going to http://www.facebook.com/toyota.

US Vets Center, Oahu SPCA, K9 Kokua reach out to homeless

Three organizations teamed up over the weekend to reach out to homeless families and their pets at Keeau Beach Park.

On Saturday, the U.S. Vets Center, the Oahu Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and K9 Kokua provided free micro-chipping services, vaccinations, health screenings, dog food and food for owners and the homeless.

According to U.S. Vets Center operations director Gladys Peraro, 53 households came to the event and registered 150 dogs, eight cats and two goats.

This was the first time the Center executed this type of outreach.

Waianae Coast Teen Advisory presents Pet Kokua

The Waianae Coast Teen Advisory is inviting the community to its Waianae Coast Pet Kokua event on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The event will provide free spay-neuter appointments and free on-site micro-chipping for pets. Veterinarians and pet behavior experts will also be available to answer questions.

Free pet food and goods will be available for those in need. The event will also feature a poster contest.

The event, sponsored by the James and Abigail Campbell Family Foundation and James Kimo Campbell, will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Waianae High School.
