WE LOVE NĀNĀKULI EXTRAVAGANZA SET FOR APRIL 14TH

The Nānākuli community celebrates its past, present and future at this free, annual event

 

WHAT:           Presented and hosted by Nānākuli High & Intermediate School (NHIS), We Love Nānākuli is an annual celebration of the talent and beauty of this ahupua‘a along the Wai‘anae Coast.

 

                        The students, parents and staff of Nānākuli High & Intermediate School welcome the public to come on campus and join in a relaxing Hawaiian celebration with plenty of entertainment and activities for all.

 

                        Event highlights include:

·         NHIS “Back to Basics” Strongman Competition – honoring Nānākuli’s own Lyle Kamaka. Participants will compete in a series of events including the truck pull, farmers walk, yoke, atlas stones and strongman medley. Attendees interested in participating should contact Wes Chun at 220-6151 or Bruce Young at 354-6665.

·         We Love You! Zumba-thon fundraiser. For a $3 donation, attendees can work up a sweat through dance in the multipurpose room from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Contact Nancy Alapai at 368-8189 if interested in participating.

·         Special performances by the Nānākuli Performing Arts Center, Jeff Kauweloa, the ladies of Hālau Pu‘uwaiokahauola, Kaiaulu – Ka Waihona o ka Na‘auao ukulele ensemble, Drill Team Hawaii, Miss Hawai‘i 2011 Lauren Cheape, NHIS’ ukulele class, and this year’s NHIS Song Fest winners, the “Class of 2015” with a tribute to Keali‘i Reichell.

 

For the kids, the Honolulu Police Department will be on-hand providing Keiki IDs. There will also be keiki bouncers and rides, as well as a dunking booth.

 

                        NHIS clubs and organizations will be selling ‘ono food including patele stew, Hawaiian food, malasadas, rotisserie chicken, chili and rice, hamburger patty plate, hot dogs, shave ice, popcorn and desserts galore.

 

This year’s event will also honor NHIS’ first graduating class of 1972.

 

We Love Nānākuli is sponsored by Hawaiian Electric Company, NHIS Parents-Teachers-Students Association, Nānākuli Homestead Cemetery Committee, NHIS PTSA Neighborhood Security Watch Committee, Councilman Tom Berg, Maui Off-Road, Pepsi, PVT Land Company, D.R.
