HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- Honolulu police say a man who allegedly set a series of fires on Helelua Street in Nanakuli early Wednesday morning has been arrested.

The 27-year-old suspect was picked up Friday on suspicion of arson.

Investigators say seven fires started between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. in nearby neighborhoods.

The largest fire scorched about a quarter of an acre and came as close as 20 yards from some townhomes.

NANAKULI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow)- One woman has died and several others were injured during a multi-vehicle car crash in Nanakuli on Sunday night.

Police closed two west bound lanes and one east bound lane of Farrington Highway near the Kahe Power Station as they investigated the crash, which occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to police.

Police investigators say the crash happened when a car being driven by 34-year-old Margaret Lavin, of Mililani, was heading east on Farrington Highway.  Police say she crossed the center median into oncoming traffic, sideswiping another car. The two occupants of that car, an adult woman and a female child, were uninjured.

After crossing the center median and sideswiping one car, police say the vehicle then continued heading east and slammed into a third car containing seven occupants.

Lavin was reportedly thrown from her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
